A Lesson Plan using digital tools

Yesterday I took a KET course to the computer room. Let  me share my lesson plan with you:
- I prepared a questionaire. They were about 10 questions such as:  what is the level course? , how many students are there in the class? Do they have laptops/computers/ smartphones/ tablets? , how many students have wifi at home, etc.)

- I asked the students to take a sheet of paper and write✎ down the questions.

- Then I asked them to gather in pairs or groups of three and go to different courses to get the answers. They had 20 minutes for this task.

 - While the students were doing the questionaire, I went to the computing room and turned on the computers.

 - I wrote the digital activities to do on the board:

  • Open Word,
  • Set Arial Font, size 14 for the title and 12 for the text,
  • Copy the questions and the answers,
  • Enrich your text with images downloaded from Internet,
  • Edit the images, 
  • Revise spelling using the spell checker,
  • Include your names, course code and date,
  • Call me to check your work,
  • If everything is OK, send me your files via mail .
  • Your works will be published in our blog and you will be able to share it on your social networks.

- After the 20 minutes  ⏰, students came to the computing room and followed the instructions on board. I was a facilitator , helping whenever it was necessary.

 - While they were working, I used my smartphone  📱and made a very short "boomerang" video and uploaded it to the institutional Instagram account.

 - I asked students who had an Instagram account to look for the institutional  Instagram  account and have a look at the video . They liked it and sent 💕Some girls took a selfie and uploaded it to Instagram.

 - Once they had finished, I asked them about the experience: They were very pleased and happy because the tasks were original. They liked the idea of interacting with students of different courses. They also liked doing something with digital technology. Some of them learned how to edit images and others learned about cloud computing. 

 As you can see, technology is just a tool. You should be creative, think out of the box and motivate  your millenial students with simple activities.

When did I start using Internet? I think it coincides with the economic change in Argentina ( 1 peso = 1 dollar) in the late 90's. I started using e-mailing. I have friedns and family living abroad or in other cities, and they usually complain about the fact that I am pretty lazy for writing letters and going to the post office. So, e-mailing was a solution for me. A really turning point took place in 2001 when I was invited to an on line course on " How to evalute websites" carried out by another Argentinean - Prof. Norma Scagnoli- working at the University of Illinois. My experience as an ICT coordinator PART ONE

At present I am working as ICT coordinator. I am supposed to help teachers using Web 2.0 tools in their ESL (English as a Second Language) classes and it is not an easy task! I have to deal with two problems: 1- Students are already motivated to use digital technologies because they belong to the "thumb" or "digital" generation , but they think they are only going to play intereactive games at the computing lab. In Argentina, Digital natives associate Internet with having fun: chatting with friends and playing interactive games since the school has not incorporated computers and the Internet as a learning tool, so I have to make them realise that we are going to work and practise the Second Language (SL) - English in this case- using computers. 2-On the other hand, teachers are still "digital immigrants" and they are , in a way, reluctant to include computing and Internet in their classes. :-( Some of them are completely technophobes and others are a bit ...
